After Jesus had risen from the dead and gone back to heaven to be with his Father, he sent the Holy Spirit to a group of his followers gathered together in Jerusalem. These 120 or so people formed the early church, which quickly grew to thousands spread throughout the known world. As well as meeting in the temple and local synagogues week by week, they met in one another’s homes to study the Apostles’ teaching, pray and worship God.

Today, as part of church life, people meet in this way to enjoy fellowship together and help one another on life’s journey. Depending on the nature the group, there will be Bible reading, discussion and prayer with maybe some social events thrown in.

Our Current Group

The 'Tuesday' Group

So called because they have always met on a Tuesday, the Group meets weekly in the home of two of its members. We like to think that we are treading in the footsteps of the first Christian church who, as well as attending the temple regularly, met together in their homes to worship God, pray, study God’s word and minister to one another’s needs.

The Tuesday Group has been steadily growing over a number of years now. Our activities usually centre on the methodical study of a particular book of the Bible, but sometimes we will pick a topic which involves reference to various part of the Bible. The second part of the evening is devoted to prayer, which is often prompted by what we have been reading, but we also bring to God our own needs and those of people known to us. Over the years we have seen many prayers answered and so are assured of God’s presence with us through the power of the Holy Spirit.

On the first Tuesday of each month we take a break from study and instead meet for prayer. Everyone is welcome to join us.

Occasionally we have a break from study to enjoy a social evening when we may invite others who would not normally attend.

Although most of us meet on a regular basis, there is no reason why someone should not come for one meeting to see if it suits them. All are welcome.

‘Lent’

During Lent all of our groups disband and a number of Lent groups are formed in The Benefice.  Further details of these can be found on the Lent and Easter page in the website (please note the tab only appears from February - April each year)
