What is Project 2020?

Project 2020 is our vision for Holy Trinity church as we move forward into the future.

It has been a number of years since any major works have been undertaken on the inside of the church, and as a result the interior is looking a little tired.

It is our vision to update and refresh the nave (the part of the church that is carpeted and has pews) to give it a total facelift and also make it possible for the community to use it as much more than just a place for worship.

Why call it Project 2020?

The current church is the third structure on this site which has been a place of worship for over 700 years.

But the church that stands in the centre of our village was consecrated on 3rd August 1820, and so we have decided to do our very best to raise the money and have the work done, so that we can open the church on Sunday 2nd August 2020 - its bicentennial celebration, with a day of thanksgiving and re-dedication.

What will be done?

The high level plans have been decided and we are currently working on the detail, but we can already give you an idea of some of the main items that will be included in the project:

How much will it cost?

It is going to be a little while until we have the exact figures, but we are currently working on a budget of approximately £350,000.

We know this sounds like a lot of money, and in many ways it is, but it is achievable if we all work together.

As well as hosting social events, we will also be applying to funding bodies to help, and this is where we need your help.

This comes in two ways:

1. Money - Funding bodies on the whole work on the principle of ‘match funding’.  This means that they will match the amount that we have ourselves, for example we have currently raised about £30,000, so we could potentially seek match funding of the same.  As that figure grows, the more  funding we can access.

2. Written support - when a church  undertakes a project of this type, funders want to see that we have talked with the community and we can evidence support.  This would usually take the form of letters, both personal and from organisations who want to lend their support to us.  If you would like to do this then please can we ask you to send any letters of support to our Vicar (Address overleaf).  If you are writing on behalf of an organisation, then please can we ask, if possible, that it is on letter-headed paper.

If you would like to make a donation then please make cheques payable to:

Holy Trinity P.C.C.’

So that we know the donation is for the project, please mark the envelope

‘Project 2020’

If you are making a personal donation, and are a taxpayer, please could we encourage you to make use of the Gift-Aid declaration on the back of this leaflet, as it will increase the amount you give without costing you more.

Example

If you made a donation of £100 and completed the Gift Aid form, then that gift would become £125!
